The State Academic Orchestra “Alex Fokin RadioBand” was founded in December 1999 by conductor, composer, and arranger Alex Fokin. The band is the first and only jazz orchestra of world-class and importance in Ukraine.
The creation of this particular orchestra was aimed at enriching the artistic and performing palette and bringing national and international musical cultures closer together, promoting the best examples of jazz heritage, and bringing together the best virtuosos from around the world.
The main manifestation of the orchestra’s high-quality sound and its outstanding creative feature is audio and video recordings made only live. The orchestra performs complex instrumental music such as jazz, funk, fusion, Latin, jazz-rock, acid jazz, and pop jazz, as well as popular and dance music. The musicians play their original arrangements of the best examples of world music, original music, and instrumental versions of world-popular hits.

“Alex Fokin RadioBand” is a universal orchestra of the so-called “Swedish composition” (combo), which, in addition to the rhythm section, has 6 brass players: 3 saxophonists, 2 trumpeters, and a trombonist.
The orchestra’s musicians play the finest modern and vintage instruments and use the most advanced sound equipment. The orchestra’s collection of musical instruments is one of the best in the world.
The orchestra has its own audio and video production. The real gem of the band is its recording studio, the “heart” of which is the most modern DIGIDESIGN sound console, equipped with the multichannel PROTOOLS sound recording software and a 7-band TANNOY acoustic system used to reproduce DOLBY sound. All this makes any “Alex Fokin RadioBand” recordings incredible in sound and surprisingly authentic.
Today, the “Alex Fokin RadioBand” is a true pride of the world jazz art. The “Alex Fokin RadioBand’s” recordings have not only been added to the archives of the National Television and Radio Company of Ukraine, but have also been released in the United States, the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Austria, Slovenia, and other countries.
The orchestra was inducted into the Music Akademia Hall of Fame in Los Angeles in 2023.
The orchestra has a rich creative biography – during its existence, it has been and still is a regular participant in many important events of the world cultural and artistic life: prestigious music festivals, artistic holidays, and celebrations. The “Alex Fokin RadioBand” actively collaborates with the world’s leading jazz artists and has initiated many loud creative collaborations with prominent musicians of our time.
The orchestra is a well-known creative laboratory for young performers, as well as a certain methodological center of the jazz music industry.
